The police have arrested 26 individuals in connection with the resolution of 11 cybercrime cases in the district over the past week, ending February 13. Authorities have claimed to recover a total of Rs 16.07 lakh from the accused during this period.
An official from the Police Department revealed that the resolved cases include seven handled by the Cyber Cell of Ballabgarh, three by the Central Police Station, and one case by the Cyber Police Station in NIT. The police also seized Rs 1,55,461 from various bank accounts during the investigation and facilitated a refund of Rs 7.5 lakh to victims.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Divyansh Kumar, Suraj, Narendra, Khushi Chaurasia, Bobby, Rakesh Rajaram Jaiswar, Harvinder, Gungun, Shivani, Shravan Kumar, Mahipal, J. Shivram, Haleem Ahmed, Bhupendra, Siddharth, Komal Meghwal, Hariom Singh, Girish Kashyap, Amit Kumar, Roshni Singh, Bindiya Kumari, Anshul Verma, Krishna, Sukhram, Dinesh Badu, and Mohammad Aftab Alam, who were nabbed from various locations during the investigation.
According to the police, the criminals used a variety of tactics to defraud victims. These included making false promises of high returns on investments in the stock market, luring people with fake lottery or lucky draw schemes and sending unverified links claiming money had been deposited into victims’ bank accounts.
Other methods included blackmailing victims with obscene videos, using fake QR codes and UPI details and tricking people into sharing their One-Time Passwords (OTPs) .
The authorities concerned have highlighted that the lack of awareness and the greed for quick financial gains were factors contributing to these cybercrimes.
