In a major push to enhance power supply infrastructure, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has initiated work on establishing 12 new power substations in Greater Faridabad at an estimated cost of Rs 2,600 crore. The process of land allotment or transfer from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has been taken up to facilitate the project.

According to sources in the DHBVN, these 33 KV substations are proposed to be set up in residential sectors 75 to 89 of Greater Faridabad. While the project was formulated and submitted for final approval two months ago, tenders will be floated only after the state government’s clearance, given the large-scale investment involved.

An official from the department said, "Each substation will have a transmission capacity of 35 MVA. This will significantly improve power supply and availability, especially in peak demand seasons. The project will also involve laying underground power cables in urban areas."

The HSVP has instructed DHBVN to inspect the land in the designated sectors before proceeding further with the project.

The new substations are expected to ease power supply issues, especially during summers, when demand surpasses supply. As integral components of the transmission system, these 33 KV substations will help in the efficient distribution of electricity from high voltage to low voltage, ensuring safer supply for residential and commercial consumers.

In a parallel development, the Union government has sanctioned Rs 3,638.21 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) for Faridabad and Gurugram. This initiative aims to modernise the power infrastructure and improve operational efficiency in distribution networks.

The scheme includes smart metering and installation of prepaid smart meters, system modernisation for better efficiency and enhanced financial viability of power distribution utilities.

A DHBVN official said, "Financial viability of power distribution companies is crucial for the entire sector’s sustainability. The RDSS scheme will play a key role in addressing this challenge."

Jitender Singh Dhull, Superintending Engineer, DHBVN, confirmed that the substation project and RDSS implementation have been launched as per state government directives. He said, "These projects will significantly strengthen the power infrastructure in Faridabad, ensuring better service delivery to consumers."
