Gurugram DCP (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan has suspended a traffic police zonal officer (ZO), a constable and a home guard allegedly for taking a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a Japanese man for not wearing a helmet while riding pillion on a scooter near the Galleria market area.
The Japanese man, Keito, recorded the entire ordeal, and posted it on his social media handle. The video has since made rounds across the Internet, prompting the cops’ suspension. “In line with our commitment to transparency and accountability, DCP Traffic, Gurugram, has taken immediate action and suspended ZO ESI Karan Singh, constable Shubham and home guard Bhupender. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in public service. There is zero tolerance for corruption,” the Gurugram traffic police said.
The incident took place near the Galleria market on Monday evening, when a Japanese woman was riding a scooter (wearing a helmet), while a Japanese man was riding pillion without a helmet, and cops stopped them.
The man, posting the video of the incident, claimed that the Gurugram police personnel had taken a bribe of Rs 1,000 from him.
