Only three days of this month are left, but over 140 ration depot holders of Indri and Nilokheri blocks are yet to receive ration under the public distribution system (PDS). A few of the remaining ration depots had not received complete quota of flour, bajra, sugar and mustard oil. The beneficiaries had to return empty handed from ration depots in the absence of ration.

In some areas, depot holders have to face the anger of beneficiaries as depot holders cannot distribute the ration of January in February after the starting of online sale of ration through digitalisation of the PDS.

They blamed the authorities for poor management and said ration should be distributed on all ration depots before 10th of every month, but they were receiving it after 20th of every month. “We have not received ration so far, while only three days are left of the current month. Beneficiaries come to depots and blame us for delay, but the delay is on the part of the authorities and transporters. We request the authorities to ensure the delivery of ration before 10th of every month, so that we can distribute it easily,” said a depot holder. Another depot holder said the department should extend the date for the distribution of ration of January to the end of first week of February.

There are 635 ration depots in the district where 1,852 metric tonnes of flour, 2,400 metric tonnes of bajra, 540 quintal of sugar and 1,27,512 litre of mustard oil were to be delivered, but so far 1,572 MT flour, 2,350 MT Bajra, and 1,04,512 litres of mustard oil were delivered, the data says.

Anil Kumar, DFSC, admitted the delay in ration at depot holders of Indri and Nilokheri blocks and said it was due to transporter as he had filed a case in the court demanding revising his rates. Now the transporter has started delivery and in one or two-days ration would reach to depots and they would distribute it.
