While the body of a 13-year boy, who drowned in Tangri river at Bhuni village under the jurisdiction of Naggal police station on Saturday, was recovered, a rescue operation was launched to trace the two men who drowned in a seasonal drain at Dukheri village.
The deceased was identified as Manveer (13), a resident of Aheru Khurd of Punjab. He was a student of Class VII.
As per the information available, five boys from Aheru Khurd village of Punjab were watching the flow of water in the Tangri river at Bhuni village of Ambala at the Haryana-Punjab border when two of them slipped and another tried to help. Three had drowned in the water, but two were rescued.
After getting information, the local residents and teams of SDRF and Naggal police station reached the spot. A rescue operation was launched, but heavy flow of water created challenges for the teams. Later, Manveer’s body was recovered from the river.
SHO Naggal police station Karambir said, “Information was received that three boys had been washed away. While two boys were rescued in time, one boy drowned. A rescue operation was launched and the body has been recovered. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.”
In the second incident, a bricks-laden tractor-trailer overturned while crossing a temporary bridge over an overflowing seasonal drain at Dukheri village.
Rajkaran, sarpanch of Dukheri village, said, “Around 1 pm, we got information that a bricks-laden tractor-trailer has overturned in the drain and four people have drowned. Later two of them came out. The remaining two are yet to be traced. People who were present here had warned them not to cross the bridge as it was receiving a heavy flow of water, but they paid no attention to the warning.”
The missing men were identified as Mukesh, a resident of Mithapur village, and Ravi, a resident of Samlehri village.
Baljinder, who was rescued, said, “Nearly 2,500 bricks were loaded on the tractor-trailer. We used to cross the bridge in routine, but today, the tractor overturned. While we managed to come out, Mukesh and Ravi were swept away.”
SDM Ambala Cantonment Vinesh Kumar said, “A rescue operation was launched soon after getting information about the incident. Divers along with the team of Parao police station are making efforts to trace the missing men.”
