Kurukshetra, June 25
The cyber cell of the Kurukshetra police has arrested three men for allegedly duping a Kurukshetra resident of Rs 22 lakh on the pretext of providing him the maturity amount of Rs 80 lakh of a life insurance policy.
The accused were identified as Amandeep and Swastik of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, and Chanderkant of UP.
They were produced before a court, which sent Chanderkant to seven-day police remand, while the other two were sent to judicial custody.
ASP Karan Goyal said, “On June 17, Paramjeet Singh, in his complaint at the Shahabad police station, had stated that in July last year, he received a call and the caller introduced himself as Rajvardhan Reddy, an employee of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. He told the victim that there was a life insurance policy in the name of the victim’s sister Davinder Kaur and he could get the maturity amount of Rs 80 lakh.”
“The caller sent Paramjeet an account number and asked him to send the processing fees. Later, they kept taking money from him on different pretexts. The victim had transferred around Rs 22 lakh to the accused. Further investigation was on,” he added.
