Three youths were killed and one was critically injured as a car caught fire after hitting a truck on NH 152-D in Pehowa late last night. The deceased were identified as Gaurav (20), Aditya (21), both residents of Rohtak, and Nitesh (18) of Sonepat. The injured is Ashish, a resident of Jhajjar.
The police said the victims were on their way to Mussoorie to appear for an exam when the accident took place. They said Ashish managed to get out of the car, adding that the others were stuck. Police officials said the car was gutted, adding that they recovered three charred bodies, which were sent to LNJP Civil Hospital.
In his complaint to the police, Vinod Kumar of Charkhi Dadri stated that his friends Nitesh, Aditya, Gaurav, and Ashish told him that they were going to Mussoorie and asked him to join them.
He said, “Gaurav was driving the car, and Ashish was sitting on the conductor side. Nitesh and Aditya were sitting behind. My brother-in-law, Vicky, and I were travelling in another car. Around 9.17 pm, near Sandholi village, a trailer-truck driver applied sudden breaks, due to which Gaurav’s car hit the trailer from the rear side.”
He said a fire tender and ambulance were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The police said the injured Ashish is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, adding that the truck has been seized.
Pehowa police station SHO Satish Kumar said, “The victims were on their way to Himachal Pradesh when the accident occurred. The injured person is not fit to give a statement yet. The families of the victims have been informed.”
