Karnal, June 12
Three labourers died after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a tank in the leather factory on the Newal-Mughal Majra road under the Kunjpura police station on Sunday.
Three other labourors are battling for life in the hospital. The police are investigating the case. The owner of the factory is absconding.
The deceased have been identified as Satish (27) of Dabri village, Pawan (24) of Jharkhand and Raj Kumar, alias Raju (23) of Bhagalpur in Bihar, were declared dead, while Suraj (19), Mausam (20) of Bhagalpur Bihar, and Bheem Singh (42) of Nepal are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
As per the information, they were hired for cleaning the tank. They divided themselves into two groups and decided to work in batch. The first batch comprising Pawan, Raju and Satish went inside the tank for cleaning it. When they did not come after a long time, the remaining three went inside the tank. Inside the tank they found they found them unconscious. Meanwhile, they too inhaled the toxic gas.
Police officials also reached the spot. They bodies have been sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. “We are investigating the case. The statements of family members are being recorded and we will take action accordingly,” said Ganga Ram Punia, Superintendent of Police (SP).
