Additional District and Sessions Judge, Nuh, Ajay K Verma on Tuesday sentenced three Rohingya refugees to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2021 human trafficking case. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the accused.
According to public prosecutor Pratap Singh, the Child Welfare Committee, Nuh, had received a tip-off in February 2021 regarding two minor girls being trafficked from Bangladesh to India via Mizoram and Kolkata.
A Rohingya refugee, Mohammad Ayas, brought the girls to Nuh from Delhi. Later, Ayas along with two other refugees Hafeez Ahmed and Mohammad Yunus took the girls to Malab village in the district. There they finalised a deal to sell the girls, aged 19 and 20 years, in Kashmir for Rs 70,000 each.
After getting the information, a team of the Child Welfare Committee conducted raids at Malab and rescued the girls. During the medical examination of the girls, it was revealed that the victim were raped and tortured by the accused. An FIR was registered under Sections 370 (buying and disposing of any person as a slave), 370A (exploitation of trafficking person), 366-B (Importation of girl) 376 (rape), 354 (molestation), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 34 (common intention) of the IPC at the Nuh city police station.
The accused, who were arrested in December 2021, confessed to the crime.
A senior investigating officer said the accused had also revealed the names of their other accomplices, including the buyer in Kashmir.
