Sonepat, July 28
The Rai police arrested a man last night for allegedly killing his daughter for “honour” 22 days ago.
A resident of the district’s Mukinpur village, in his police complaint, said he had married an 18-year-old girl of the same village on November 24 last year in an Arya Samaj temple at Meerut, UP. He got the wedding registered in a court. The girl had gone to her parents’ house after two days and they had shifted to Rohtak, he said.
His wife had come to her husband’s house on June 3. But his father-in-law called her on July 6 to celebrate his birthday the next day, the husband alleged. He left his wife to the Rai police station gate from where his father-in-law took her in a car to Rohtak but after that, the husband did not get any clue of his wife, he alleged.
The police swung into action after the man filed a complaint to the SP that his wife had been missing. The Rai police registered a case of kidnapping and started the probe. The girl’s father was arrested on Tuesday and sent to five-day police remand.
He reportedly admitted that he, along with a relative, murdered his daughter on July 6 near Kheri Damkan village in Sonepat and took the body to Meerut and threw it into a canal.
