30 lost mobile phones returned to owners by cyber cell in Faridabad

The cyber cell of the local police has traced 30 mobile phones and returned these to their registered owners. These phones had gone missing or were stolen in the past few months.

A spokesperson of the police department said the cost of the mobile phones that were traced had been around Rs 5.5 lakh in the market. These phones were traced after complaints had been registered on the portal of Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), a wing of the Telecommunications Department of the Union Government. The CEIR is a centralised system implemented to manage and track mobile devices using their International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers. It helps in combating mobile device theft and misuse, after the details of the lost mobile phone is lodged.

He said the owners of the mobile phones were handed over their devices at a function held at the Central Cyber Police Station here. DCP Cyber Jasleen Kaur was present on the occasion.
