In a significant crackdown on traffic violations, the Rewari Police issued challans to 3009 vehicle owners and imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on them for violation of traffic rules in the month of January. Besides, 233 vehicles were impounded for various violations. Majority of challans were issued to owners of vehicles without high-security number plates.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to promote road safety, we launched the road safety month campaign from January 1 to 31 to raise awareness about the importance of traffic discipline. The campaign emphasised on the need to follow traffic rules to reduce road accidents and ensure safer travel for everyone,” said a spokesperson of the district police.

He maintained that a total of 622 challans were issued to owners of vehicles without high-security number plates, 313 for wrong-side driving, 268 for riding two-wheelers without helmets, 252 for triple riding, 219 for wrong parking, 205 for improper lane change, 97 for driving vehicles without seat belt, 77 for using black films on vehicles, 69 for drunken driving and 30 for using pressure horns.

Besides, 73 challans were issued to owners of Bullet motorcycles for producing high decibel sound (pataka sound) from modified silencers installed on their bikes. In all, Rs 80,56,700 fine was levied on vehicle owners for violation of these rules, he said.

Rewari Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Gupta said the police had been actively working to ensure better traffic management and road safety. He emphasised that the focus was on ensuring that the people adhered to traffic rules to prevent road mishaps, which is why challans were being issued to violators.

The SP also warned drivers indulging in dangerous stunts on Bullet motorcycles. He said while the current focus was on issuing challans, there was also a legal provision for prosecution for such unlawful activities.

“Improving traffic system is a collective responsibility. It’s essential for residents to understand their role in maintaining order on roads. Many drivers often park their vehicles in middle of roads or in a haphazard manner, especially in markets, causing significant traffic disruptions. To prevent this, all vehicles should be parked at designated spaces. By doing so, we can ensure smoother and safer traffic flow. The Rewari Police remains committed to ensuring public safety on roads,” the SP added.
