A welcome decision
It’s a great decision and procurement of such machines will end the dependence on private firms for routine works of sanitation, beautification and environment protection work — A Senior Official
At present, a majority of the local bodies do not have such machines and they have to get the work done through private firms. The costs are not only high, but also cause delay in executing the work. Hence, Urban Local Bodies Minister Kamal Gupta recently took the decision of procuring all such machines at a meeting.
Sources said the directorate had also calculated a tentative requirement for the procurement of the machines on the basis of the population of municipal corporations/ councils concerned.
“As per the assessment, a total of 343 such machines (49 each kind) are required at all 33 municipal corporations and councils. The super sucker machines will tentatively cost Rs 24.40 crore, tree trimming machine Rs 11 crore, horticulture shedding machine Rs 2.81 crore, small sweeping machines Rs 17.64 crore, patchwork machine Rs 8.82 crore, road roller 1.47 crore and sprinkler machines Rs 19.60 crore,” said the sources.
The office of the Director, ULB, recently sent a letter to all district municipal commissioners and commissioners of all municipal corporations directing them to initiate the process of procurement of the machines at the earliest so as to comply with the decision.
The sources said four and five machines were required for each Gurugram and Faridabad Municipal Corporations, respectively, having the population of over 10 lakh. Similarly, two machines each were needed for all other corporations/councils having population of three to six lakh, one machine is required for each local body having a population between one and two lakh. A senior official said procurement of such machines would end the dependence on private firms for routine works of sanitation, beautification and environment protection work.
“It is a great decision by the ULB Minister and it will benefit all municipal corporations and councils. I have asked the officers concerned to initiate the process for procuring such machines at the earliest,” A senior official said.
