3,664 challaned for using phones while driving in Gurugram
The use of mobile phones while driving has become a common offence in Gurugram. From January 1 to November 30 this year, the traffic police issued over 3,664 challans to those using mobile phones while driving. The traffic police imposed a fine of Rs 2 crores.
According to a traffic police official, from January 1 to November 30, many special checking campaigns were conducted by the Gurugram traffic police with the aim to motivate drivers to not use mobile phones while driving. During these special checking drives, vehicles were checked at various places by different police teams of the traffic police.
A total of 3,664 drivers were found using mobile phones while driving by the teams.
A senior traffic police officer said on an average, over 11 drivers were caught using mobile phones while driving. The fine for using a mobile phone while driving in Gurugram is Rs 5,000 for the first offence and Rs 10,000 for subsequent offences.
“Using a mobile phone while driving is a serious offense that can be dangerous and lead to accidents. Drivers should pull over if they need to use their phone instead of taking calls while driving. The traffic police have been checking drivers using mobile phones while driving and taking action as per rules against them for the purpose of safe, smooth operation of traffic,” said Virender Vij, DCP (Traffic).
