In a tragic incident, four labourers were killed and one critically injured at a construction site of residential society Emaar Palm Heights in Sector 77 here today when a tower crane broke down, resulting in the workers’ fall from the 17th floor of the building.
Negligence suspected

While four of the labourers died on the spot, one was being treated at a hospital. Police officials, Duty Magistrate and District Town Planner reached the spot after receiving information about the mishap.
Suresh Kumar, ACP, Manesar, said it seemed to be the result of negligence and action would be taken as per the law after receiving complaint in this regard.
According to the police, the incident took place around 5.10 pm when the labourers were busy on the 17th floor fixing the tower crane with the help of welding of the outer temporary lift, which was used to lift construction material. An iron angle of the shuttering broke down and all five labourers fell down. While four of them fell on the ground, one was stuck on the 12th floor.
A police team rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, where four of them were declared as brought dead and one injured was being treated at a hospital. He was identified as Raj Kishore from Bihar.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Mohammad Tahmid, Kamod, Naveen, Parmesar, natives of Kisangang, Bihar. They were working on the site for the past many months. “The residential society in Sector 77 is being developed by Emaar Builder and the contractor is JJRS company,” said Suresh Kumar, ACP, Manesar.
According to preliminary investigation, there was no safety equipment at the site for the labourers. All five were welders, busy in fixing the tower crane when the incident happened.
An Emaar Spokesperson said, “We deeply regret the unfortunate and tragic incident and empathise with the victims. The tragic accident took place during construction closeout work by the contractor in a completed tower in Palm Heights. We are further investigating the unfortunate incident along with our contractor to understand the cause of this incident.”
