Chandigarh, March 18
Ram Chander Jangra and Dushyant Kumar Gautam of the BJP and Deepender Singh Hooda of the Congress have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana. They were handed over their certificates by Returning Officer Ajit Balaji Joshi today.
The three Rajya Sabha vacancies had arisen following the resignation of BJP’s Ram Kumar Kashyap, who was elected MLA last year, the expiry of Congress’ Kumari Selja’s term (next month) and the resignation of former Union Minister and BJP leader Birender Singh.
While Jangra and Deepender’s term will begin from April 10, Gautam has been elected for the remainder of Singh’s term that would end on August 1, 2022. The two BJP MPs were accompanied by state party chief Subhash Barala when they came to collect their certificates. Deepender was accompanied by legislators owing allegiance to his father BS Hooda.
