To provide relief to the residents from severe waterlogging during the rains, four new pump houses are being set up by the Public Health Engineering Department in Ambala City.

As per the information available, pump houses are being established on Jaraut road, Jalbera road, Dashmesh Market and Inderpuri area at a cost of around Rs 18 crore.

Karanbeer Singh, Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Ambala, said, “Various areas of Ambala City witness waterlogging during the rains and to provide relief to the residents, four new pump houses are being established. The pump houses are being installed in different pockets — on the basis of the experience of previous years — in which waterlogging was witnessed. Earlier, there were four major pump houses and with the four new ones, there will be eight pump houses for the disposal of the water.”

“Efforts are being made to get all the pump houses ready at the earliest so that city residents don’t face inconvenience during the rainy season. For the long term, the department will get a project prepared from IIT Roorkee to resolve the issue of waterlogging in Ambala City,” he added.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and former Minister of State Aseem Goel, who recently laid the foundation stones of the pump house projects, said, “Waterlogging during the rainy season has been a major problem in Ambala City and sincere efforts are being made by the government to resolve the issue. New pump houses are being established in the city and we are confident that the new projects will provide much-needed respite to the residents.”

“Foundation stone of pump houses at Jaraut Road and Dashmesh market have been laid recently. Work on pump house at Jalbera road has also started. The project will provide relief to residents of Jaraut road, Baldev Nagar, BBMB colony, Ram Nagar, Jagadhri Gate, Old Civil Hospital Road, Nadi Mohalla and Ambika temple road. Besides these, the projects will also provide relief to the showroom owners and shopkeepers in famous cloth market in Ambala City,” the former Ambala City MLA said.

Aseem Goel said recently, a super sucker-cum-jetting machine — bought at a cost of around Rs 2.45 crore by the Municipal Corporation to clean the drains of Ambala City — was also deployed. This state-of-the-art machine will play a crucial role in flood management, desilting and maintaining the stormwater drainage infrastructure in Ambala City. It will effectively remove blockages, silt and waste from drains.
