The construction of four railway underbridges (RUBs) here has provided major respite to commuters from waiting for a long time for the railway gate to open at level crossings.
Saves time
I go from Old Hamida Colony to my coaching centre in Model Town every day. Earlier, I had to wait for a long for the railway gate to open at the level crossing here. Now, I use the railway underbridge (RUB) near Jamuna Gali and don’t have to waste even a single minute to cross the railway line. The RUB has brought a major relief to thousands of residents of Old Hamida Colony, and nearby areas in the Jathlana area. — Ikbal Singh, Resident of Old Hamida Colony
Shopkeepers and residents of these areas (where level crossings existed a few years ago) also heaved a sigh of relief with the easing of traffic congestion there.
The Railways has constructed these RUBs near Jamuna Gali, Gandhi Nagar, Jagadhri Workshop in Farakpur and a new workshop station.
Ikbal Singh, a daily commuter, said the traffic woes had eased after the construction of the RUBs in place of the level crossings here.
“I go from Old Hamida Colony to my coaching centre in Model Town every day. Earlier, I had to wait for a long period for the railway gate to open at the level crossing here. Now, I use the RUB constructed near Jamuna Gali and don’t have to waste even a single minute to cross the railway line,” he said.
He said this underpass had brought a major relief to thousands of residents of Old Hamida Colony, nearby areas and villages associated with the Jathlana area.
Deepak Kumar, a resident of Farakpur, said every day, people had to face a lot of problems due to the level crossings before the construction of the RUBs near Gandhi Nagar and Jagadhri Workshop. He said the construction of these RUBs had made the vehicular movement smooth and hassle-free.
“These areas are among the highly populated areas of Yamunanagar. A number of colonies are situated on both sides of the railway lines. Most people had to cross these lines every day through level crossings to reach their destinations and were forced to stand in heavy traffic jams for longer periods,” said Deepak Kumar.
An overbridge is also being constructed near Saraswati Sugar Mills that will connect the Saharanpur road to the old Radaur road, providing a major relief to a large number of commuters coming from different areas.
“It is a good initiative taken by the Indian Railways to start the construction of an overbridge connecting the old Radaur road to the Saharanpur road. After years of inconvenience, we will now get relief from traffic jams and pollution once the work on the overbridge is completed,” said a shopkeeper.
Chhotu Ram, a resident of Shadipur village, said the old railway overbrige connecting Maharana Pratap Chowk to Vishwakarma Chowk should be made four-lane.
“This is one of the busiest roads in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. If the overbridge is made four-lane, the commuters will get a major respite from the traffic chaos as it will help in the hassle-free vehicular movement,” he added.
