41 ayurvedic medical officers to teach at Mahendragarh college
The state government has deputed 41 newly appointed ayurvedic medical officers (AMOs) to serve as professors, readers and lecturers at Baba Khetanath Government Ayurvedic College at Patikara village in Mahendragarh district. These deputations will be for three years or until regular appointments are made, whichever is earlier.
The move is aimed at addressing the ongoing staff shortage at the college, which has been facing a reduction in student intake for the past two years due to inadequate teaching staff. With the Centre’s annual inspection due in the coming days to assess the availability of faculty, the state government has deployed these AMOs to the college, sources said.
“In 2022, initially the college had an intake capacity of 100 students, but due to the lack of teachers, the Central authorities allowed admission for only 30 students, based on the available faculty, in 2024. Since then, we have been urging the state government to ensure enough faculty to restore our full intake capacity,” said a college official.
Shriniwas Gujjarwar, principal of the college, said 36 AMOs had already joined the faculty, with the remaining few expected to join soon.
“All AMOs meet the mandatory requirement for teaching positions. They all have teacher codes as they were previously involved in teaching at different colleges. They will continue to receive the salary for their original posts,” he added.
Sanjeev Verma, Director General of the Ayush Department, said around 530 AMOs were appointed across the state recently, and those who met the essential qualifications for the roles of professor, reader, and lecturer had been sent on deputation to the college, keeping the state's interests in mind. Others had been posted in the field in all districts to facilitate the patients, he said.
