After the completion of the nomination papers and withdrawal process, 43 candidates are left in the fray from the four Assembly segments in Kurukshetra district.
A maximum of 16 are in the fray from Ladwa from where the CM is contesting, followed by nine each in Thanesar, Shahabad and the Pehowa Assembly segments.
The Ladwa Assembly segment is one of the hot seats in the Assembly election in the state. The seat is being represented by Congress MLA Mewa Singh and the BJP has fielded Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini from the Ladwa seat, while for Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Sapna Barshami, daughter-in-law of senior leader Sher Singh Barshami is contesting for the second time.
Even in the previous election the INLD had fielded Sapna from this constituency.
Besides these, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Joga Singh, Jannayak Janta Party candidate Vinod Kumar, Peoples Party of India (democratic) candidate Man Singh Bapda, Bhartiya Shakti Chetna Party candidate Vikram Singh Saini, Rashtriya Gabir Dal candidate Satish Kumar, Bhartiya Sarvodaya Party’s Subhash Saini and Independent candidates Ashok Saini, Parveen Kumar, Bhajan Singh, Rajkumar, Ram Chander, Vikramjeet Singh and Sandeep Garg, a BJP rebel, are in the fray from the Ladwa segment.
The Thanesar Assembly segment is also set to witness an interesting contest with nine candidates in the fray. The seat is being represented by BJP candidate and Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha, who is facing a stiff challenge from Congress candidate Ashok Arora. Besides these, AAP’s Krishan Bajaj, BSP’s Tanuja, JJP’s Surya Partap Singh Rathore, Republican Party of India (A) candidate Jaiveer Singh Ranga and Independents Abhishek Punia, Ashok Kumar and Mehar are in the fray.
In Shahabad, nine candidates, including sitting MLA and Congress candidate Ram Karan Kala, BJP’s Subhash Chand Kalsana, AAP’s Asha Rani, BSP’s Chander Bhan Chauhan, JJP’s Rajeeta Singh, Mission Ekta Party’s Kanta Aaladia and Independent candidates Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Kanipla and Shiv Nath are testing their fates.
Similarly, in Pehowa, AAP’s Gehal Singh Sandhu, BJP’s Jai Bhagwan Sharma (DD), INLD’s Baldev Singh Waraich, Congress candidate Mandeep Chatha, JJP’s Dr Sukhwinder Kaur, SAD (Simranjit Singh Mann) candidate Kuldeep Singh, Sanyukt Sangharsh Party’s Gurnam Singh Charuni and Independent candidates Rajat Sharma and Shyam Lal are in the fray.
District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal, said, “As many as 43 candidates are in the fray from the four assembly segments. The candidates and their election agents have been asked to ensure that all rules and guidelines of model code of conduct are strictly followed, so that the election is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.”
