5.50 lakh pilgrims arrive at Kapal Mochan Mela in Yamunanagar district
Devotees from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other states arrive here to take a dip in three holy sarovars on Kartik Purnima
About 5.50 lakh pilgrims from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other states of the country arrived at historical Kapal Mochan Mela, being held at Kapal Mochan near Vyaspur town in Yamunanagar district.
The pilgrims take a dip in three holy sarovars on the occasion of Kartik Purnima (which started at 12 am on November 5) with a belief to attain moksha (salvation).
The five day inter-state mela began on November 1, 2025 and concluded on November 5.The mela was inaugurated by Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner of Ambala division, on November 1. Elaborate arrangements were made by the district administration for peaceful conduct of the mela. According to information, several lakh pilgrims come to this mela every year to take a dip in Kapal Mochan, Rin Mochan and Surajkund sarovars here with a belief to attain moksha.
After taking a bath, the pilgrims also perform the religious ritual of lightening earthen lamps on the banks of the sarovars and offer prayers in temples and gurdwara situated on the mela premises.
After attending the mela and returning to their homes, most of the pilgrims buy Jagadhri -made utensils of brass and stainless steel from the shops situated on the mela premises and Jagadhri city as a symbol of good omen.
Raj Kumar, a shopkeeper associated with the trade of stainless steel and brass utensils said this mela was a good opportunity for the shopkeepers to sell their utensils.
“Kapal Mochan Mela is like the festival of Diwali for the traders as they get a chance to sell their utensils in large numbers,” said Raj Kumar.
The devotees also visit exhibitions organised by various departments and religious and social organisations. As many as 40 stalls were set up by various state government departments in the exhibition area.
Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta visited the mela premises to take stock of security and other arrangements. Jaspal Singh Gill, Bilaspur SDM-cum- Mela Administrator said after taking a bath in the holy sarovars at the stroke of midnight on Kartik Purnima, the pilgrims begin returning to their native places in their private vehicles and in buses of the Haryana Roadways.
The police have also made elaborate arrangements to control the traffic by putting barricades at several places on the roads leading to Kapal Mochan mela premises.
