As many as 5,547 (around 40 per cent) government schools, including Aarohi common, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Model Sanskriti, PM Shri and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Lab Schools, are yet to update information about the status of dual desks on the government portal despite repeated reminders. A total of 14,156 government schools are being run in the state.

Taking a serious note of it, the Department of School Education (DES) has directed the district education officers (DEEOs)/district elementary education officers (DEEOs) to issue show-cause notices to heads of all those schools who fail to update the sought information by March 4. They have also been asked to seek explanation from the heads and ensure sending it to the head officer before March 5. The officers will be responsible in case of any delay in the compliance of the directives.

“You have been issued directions to update the information about the dual desks on the portal,” said a communiqué sent to all DEOs/ DEEOs from the DSE, adding: “The last date for the same was February 29, but 39.74 per cent of the schools have not yet submitted their final information in this respect, which is a clear disrespect of the orders of the directorate. Now, the last date for updating the info on the portal has been extended to March 4 with a strict instruction to issue show-cause notices to those school heads failing to do so before the deadline.”

An official of the Education Department said the more than a year ago, the state government had decided to provide dual desks to all government schools across the states. All schools then were asked to provide the status of the dual desk availability and further requirements so that more desks could be made available.

“With 524 schools, Kurukshetra is on the top in the tally of those which are yet to update the information about the dual desks followed by Yamunanagar with 465, Mahendragarh with 444 and Karnal with 429 schools,” the official said. “Sonepat is at the bottom where merely three schools are yet to update the information followed by Charkhi Dadri with 63, Panchkula with 121 and Faridabd with 138 schools.”

Sunil Dutt, DEO, Mahendragarh, said heads of all such schools in Mahendragarh district had been directed to update the information about dual desks like availability, requirement and number of desks which needed repair by Monday.
