A five-member committee has been constituted to build consensus on the selection of nine co-opting members of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC). The decision was taken during a meeting of 39 of 40 newly elected members in Chandigarh on Sunday.

Confirming the formation of the committee, Sahuwala said: “The state government has left the co-opting process of all the 40 members to the committee."

Jhinda said the Act mandates the co-option of two Sikh women, three persons from Scheduled Castes or Backward Classes, two Sikh intellectuals, and two presidents from registered Singh Sabhas. “The five-member committee will take names from all elected members and thereafter will try to build consensus on nine names, which will be given to the Gurdwara Election Commission," he said.
