5 shopkeepers challaned for selling banned polythene bags, two for littering

A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has conducted raids on several shops in Jagadhri to stop usage of banned plastic items.

During the raid, the joint team issued challans to five shopkeepers for selling banned polythene bags and two shopkeepers for littering.

The team seized the polythene and imposed a fine on all seven shopkeepers.

According to information, the joint team raided shops situated on Chhoti Line and in the Rest House road area in Zone-I in Jagadhri against those selling single-use banned plastic items.

During the raid, a large amount of banned polythene was recovered from five shopkeepers.

The team issued challans on the spot to all five shopkeepers and collected a fine of Rs 2,500 from them.

During the raid, two shopkeepers were found littering. The team of the MCYJ found the owner of a grocery shop dumping garbage in the open on Chhoti Line near Durga Garden. The team issued him a challan on the spot.

Similarly, one more shopkeeper was found dumping garbage in the open. He was also issued challan on the spot.

A challan amount of Rs 1,000 was collected from both shopkeepers.

As per available information, to ban single-use plastic kits, two teams have been formed under the leadership of Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjeet Singh in Zone-I and Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt in Zone-II.

Sanitary Inspector Amit Kamboj said on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, raids were conducted to ban single-use plastic.

He said from July 1, 2020, a complete ban had been imposed on the use of 19 plastic items, including polythene bags, plastic spoons, donas, glasses, ice cream sticks, plates, cups, forks, straws, invitation cards, thermocol decorative items, PVC banners and plastic flags.
