5 years on, Karnal NDRI premises reopen to walkers, but with riders
After a gap of five years, the premises of the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) will reopen to morning and evening walkers from December 20. The NDRI has kept some conditions for residents, which the district administration has accepted.
Now, residents can go for walks on the NDRI campus with certain conditions from 5 am to 7 am and 5.30 pm to 7 pm. This will be on a trial basis and residents have to abide by the restrictions imposed by the district administration and the NDRI authorities. After three months, the administration and the NDRI authorities will review the progress of opening the gates.
The entry of residents for walks on the NDRI campus was stopped in September 2019 after the death of several livestock under mysterious circumstances. The demand for opening of the gates of the NDRI for walks was raised by locals on several platforms. They even protested and requested the former CM and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and then CM Nayab Singh Saini to reopen the gates for residents. Now, during the visit of Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan and Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand also raised the issue. The district BJP working president, Brij Gupta, also raised the issue with Khattar. After the joint efforts of the public representatives and Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, the ICAR-NDRI director agreed to reopen the premises for people, but with riders.
The entry and exit of residents will be allowed only from Gate Number-1 in view of safety and security. No person will be allowed to bring vehicle on the premises.
Keeping in view the health of the hundreds of livestock on the premises, nobody would be allowed to go towards sensitive areas. No eatables are allowed to be brought on the premises. Nobody would be allowed to go towards the hostel, residential area, laboratories, office blocks, farm and livestock area. The People will be allowed to walk only on the dedicated stretch and they would not be allowed to bring any pets. Residents have been asked not to damage the property and greenery on the premises. Director Dheer Singh apprised the district administration of the guidelines, urging officials to ensure the compliance citing security and safety of students, staff, faculty and their family members living there.
DC Uttam Singh said they would ensure the compliance of the guidelines of ICAR. “The gate will be open for people but they have to abide by the guidelines,” said the DC. MLA Jagmohan Anand, thanked Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, CM Nayab Singh Saini, NDRI Director Dheer Singh and DC Uttam Singh among others for their efforts in opening the campus for walkers.
