51K motorists fined for driving sans helmet in Feb in Gurugram
The Gurugram traffic police have issued 51,098 challans amounting to over Rs 5.10 crore to offenders for driving without helmets in February.
During special campaigns conducted from February 1 to February 28, the Gurugram traffic police issued 22,258 challans to the tune of Rs 2.22 crore to those driving without helmets. As many as 28,840 challans amounting to Rs 2.88 crore were issued to pillion riders for not wearing helmets.
A senior traffic police official said riding a two wheeler without a helmet significantly increased the risk of severe head injuries in the event of an accident, which could lead to brain damage, skull fractures or even death. “The aim is to prevent road accidents. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, two-wheeler drivers and pedestrians lost more lives in mishaps,” said Virender Vij, DCP (Traffic).
