54% of 408 faculty positions lying vacant at Rohtak varsity

The Vice Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Prof Rajbir Singh, said at a press conference on Wednesday that 54 per cent of the 408 sanctioned faculty posts at the university are vacant. He added that the appointment of teachers had been stalled by the state government.

“Even these 408 posts were sanctioned more than 25 years ago. As of now, the requirement of teachers has increased and a number of faculty members have superannuated. We are pursuing the matter with the Governor and other state authorities, requesting them to fill up the vacant posts,” the Vice Chancellor said.

He also announced that the university has approved the registration of a record 195 PhD researchers at the 204th meeting of the Academic Council, which also cleared the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 across all study programmes and departments, including the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) and the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).

“With this, MDU has become the first university in the state to have implemented the NEP-2020 in all courses and teaching departments,” Prof Singh said.

At the meeting, six MoUs were also approved to promote academic cooperation and skill development. These include innovation and entrepreneurship with Ruhil Future Technologies Pvt Ltd; employment-oriented skills with CSR Box Foundation; training in emerging technologies with NASSCOM/IT-ITES Sector Skills Council; hotel and tourism management with Classic Golf and Country Club; and collaboration with the Apprenticeship and Training Board of the Government of India.

The council also decided to establish an Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Centre to develop and monitor IKS-related courses across subjects.

In addition, approval was granted for the establishment of a Faculty of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, the introduction of a formative assessment system as recommended by the Curriculum and Design Development Centre, and the launch of D.Litt, D.Sc and post-doctoral fellowships, along with posts of Teacher Fellows and Teaching Associates.
