Bijender Sandhu, a 55-year-old farmer, was burnt to death at Nizampur village in Panipat on Monday.
Sandhu’s family members said he had some feud with a real estate developer, whose employees allegedly set him on fire.
Sandhu’s family members said they admitted him to the Panipat Civil Hospital from where doctors referred him to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. They said Sandhu succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Complainant Rohit told the police that his father had purchased land from Nafe Singh in 1996 and the registration deed and all documents were with them. He said his father was tilling the land for the last 28 years.
He alleged that they had a feud over land with a real estate developer and the matter was pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Rohit alleged that Ravi and Rajat along with others, staff of the builder, had damaged their borewell and a room with an earth mover. He said his father went to the farm on Monday at around 8:30 pm, where the accused set him on fire.
The police have booked Ravi, Rajat and others under Section 103 (1) and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As the situation turned tense, heavy police force was deployed in the village to maintain law and order.
DSP (Headquarters) Satish Vats said a farmer had died due to burn injuries in Nizampur village. A case had been registered on the complaint of the deceased’s son against the employees of a real estate company, said Vats, adding that probe had been initiated into the incident.
