Chandigarh, December 9

Six people, including four officials of the State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, have been arrested by the police in Sirsa for a scam involving 15,000 quintals of wheat, 2,000 quintals sugar and 1,200 quintals dal meant for Public Distribution Scheme (PDS). An FIR in this connection was registered three years ago after an inquiry ordered by Ram Niwas, the then Additional Chief Secretary of the Department, had detected the scam by some depot holders in connivance with the officials of the department.
