HAFED Managing Director Mukul Kumar today took stock of paddy procurement work and other arrangements at the Vyaspur grain market.
He talked to farmers and commission agents and checked the moisture content in paddy. Kumar said keeping in mind the interests of farmers, the state government had started paddy procurement from September 22 and the work was going on smoothly in all grain markets of the district.
He added that this year, about 6 lakh metric tonnes paddy purchase target had been set for the district.
The MD stated that the government had fixed the price for Grade-A paddy at Rs 2,389 per quintal and for Common Grade paddy at Rs 2,369 per quintal.
Kumar said all necessary arrangements were made in all 13 grain markets of the district before the purchase of paddy. He enquired from the department officials present in the grain market about the facilities like electricity, clean water and toilets. The MD appealed to the farmers to bring their paddy to the market only after drying it, so that they could get a fair price for their crop at right time.
Vyaspur SDM Jaspal Singh Gill said that 9,114 MT of paddy had been procured at the Vyaspur grain market till October 3. He added that government agencies, including HAFED, Haryana Warehousing Corporation and Food and Civil Supplies Department, were purchasing paddy in the district.
“The administration has provided all facilities at grain markets. Farmers and commission agents also expressed satisfaction with the arrangements,” the SDM said.
