Sixty booths have been declared as sensitive in the areas falling under the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
Jagadhri SDM-cum-Returning Officer Sonu Ram said as per orders of Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta, the polling station of the Government High School, Gobindpuri, had been made a model polling station.
He said this school had been made a pink polling booth for the local body elections to be held on March 2.
District Magistrate Parth Gupta said all liquor shops, bars and pubs, located at a distance of 3 km from the areas of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, and Municipal Council, Radour, (where elections are to be held) would remain closed one day before the polling, on the day of polling and on the day of counting of votes.
He said there would be a ban on the sale of liquor during the elections of the civic bodies.
Chamkaur Singh, police spokesperson, said on the directions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajiv Deswal, the district police had made elaborate arrangements for the conduct of peaceful elections.
He said officers and employees of the district police had been deployed at polling booths and on patrolling and checking duties.
On Saturday, all police officers and employees on election duty were sent to their duty places after giving them instructions related to the elections, said Chamkaur Singh.
He said the SP had instructed policemen to remain in touch with Returning Officers and supervisors, deputed on election duty.
He further said during the civic body elections, Section 189 (4) had been imposed by the district administration within 200 metres of the polling booths.
“Carrying of any kind of weapon, promotional material or any other suspicious object near polling booths is prohibited. People will not be allowed to stand in groups near polling booths. If any person is found violating Section 189 (4), necessary legal action will be taken against him immediately,” said Chamkaur Singh.
He said the police had also set up check posts at 26 places in the district in view of the elections.
