Karnal, February 12
A total of 66 rice millers have failed to deliver 50 per cent of custom milled rice (CMR) so far though they have to deliver 70 per cent of CMR to the government by the end of February. Some of these have not delivered even 40 per cent of CMR.
The district authorities have constituted nine teams to conduct physical verification to check the status of paddy and rice. The teams have been directed to submit their reports by February 17, according to Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav.
“The teams will verify the availability of paddy and rice. Action will be initiated if there is any discrepancy,” he said. As per norms, millers had to deliver 30 per cent CMR by the end of December, 20 per cent more by the end of January, another 20 per cent by the end of February, 10 per cent in March and 20 per cent in April.
“We have identified 66 rice millers who have not delivered 50 per cent of CMR. We are keeping tabs on the quality of rice delivered to the government,” said Yadav. Action would be initiated if millers did not cooperate in verification, which would be videographed, he said.
