The Kaithal police have detained seven juveniles in connection with the double murder of two teenagers from Barta village. The police are also investigating the involvement of others in the case. The detained minors were produced before the court, which has sent them to a juvenile detention centre.
All juveniles are aged between 15 and 16 years. Based on preliminary findings, the police believe the reason behind the crime was retaliation over alleged harassment of sisters of two juveniles by the victims.
Kaithal DSP (Headquarters) Bir Bhan said the bodies of Arman (16) and Prince (14) were found near a drain on Monday morning.
On the complaint of Prince’s father Rohtash a case has been registered under Sections 190, 191(3), 103, 61(2) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Superintendent of Police Astha Modi visited the crime scene and directed officials to ensure a thorough investigation.
Rohtash alleged that his son Prince and nephew Arman had gone missing on May 18 evening after they went out for a walk. When they did not return, a search was launched. Their bodies were found near a drain next morning.
The bodies bore deep injuries by sharp weapons, particularly on the head and other parts, indicating a brutal attack, the DSP said.
The police got the post mortem conducted through a board of doctors and handed over the bodies to the families, who further cremated them on Monday evening.
The DSP said the investigation revealed that a few days before the incident, two youths from the same village had visited the victims’ homes and accused them of harassing their sisters. They had also warned the victims of serious consequences if they did not mend their ways.
He saidt the police are also investigating the involvement of others in the case. “Out of nine teenagers, seven have been identified and detained,” the DSP added.
