70-ft Lankapati to be burnt in Yamunanagar district

300 police personnel to be deployed at various locations during Ravana Dahan ceremonies

Effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath will be burnt at several places in Yamunanagar district on the occasion of Vijayadashami (Dasehra) on Thursday.

A 70-ft-tall effigy of Ravana will be burnt at the Dasehra ground in Yamunanagar’s Model Town.

Along with effigy of Ravana, 65-ft-tall effigies of Kumbhakaran and Meghnath will also be burnt on this ground.

Mohinder Manchanda of Model Colony, who is giving them finishing touch, told media persons that the effigies were being prepared by the Shri Sanatan Dharma Mandir Sabha. On the occasion of Vijayadashami on Thursday, a grand procession will be taken out through the city, featuring a tableau of Lord Rama and his army. Upon arrival on the Dasehra ground, a battle will be staged between Lord Rama and Ravana.

Thereafter, effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath will be burnt after a ritualistic worship.

The effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath will also be burnt at Sector 18 (near office of District Town Planner). The event is being organised by the Shri Ramlila Committee, Jagadhri.

Besides, the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath will be burnt in Sadhaura, near OP Jindal Park on the City Centre Ground, in front of the Tejli Sports Complex, in Buria town, Radaur town, Jathlana town, Vyaspur town, Chhachhrauli town, Pratapnagar town and some other places in the district.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal said about 300 police personnel had been deployed at various locations in the district to maintain law and order during the Ravana Dahan ceremonies. He said that vigilance had been increased in the district and DSP-level officers had been appointed as nodal officers at all major Dasehra sites.

He said all police station heads had been instructed to be present at Ravana Dahan sites in their respective areas.
