8 Naraingarh MC poll candidates disqualified for not filing expenses’ details
Chandigarh, January 18
The State Election Commission (SEC), Haryana, has disqualified eight candidates, who contested the elections to the Municipal Committee, Naraingarh, in Ambala district, for a period of five years for their failure to file election expenditure details.
In its order, the commission disqualified Preetpal Kaur, Naina Kapoor, Monika Sharma, Usha Sharma, Mohit Kumar, Surinder Kaur, Geeta Rani and Sumit Kumar, the candidates who contested the 2022 MC poll, for a period of five years since November 22, 2023.
The SEC recently notified their disqualification following an order of the Ambala DC, who passed the order against them on November 22, last year.
The action has been taken against them under the Haryana Municipal Act, 1973. The Act says that every candidate will keep a separate account of all expenditure incurred by the candidate in connection with the election from the date of filing the nomination. The expenditure details have to be filed with the commission within the stipulated time.
The Act provides that if the SEC is satisfied that a candidate had failed to file the election expenditure details within the stipulated timeframe with the SEC, the commission can declare him/her disqualified for a period of five years.
