8 scientists to be awarded at Kurukshetra varsity

Kurukshetra University Vice Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva today said the University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar will honour eight eminent Indian scientists with Goyal and Rajib Goyal Prizes at the university on September 6. Goyal Prizes were instituted by Ram S Goyal to honour Indian scientists for their exceptional work.

The VC, who is also the chairman of Goyal Award Organising Committee, said Indian scientists have made a remarkable contribution in the field of science. Kurukshetra University is the only university in the country which honours outstanding scientists for their exemplary contribution in the advancement of basic and applied science in the country.

Prof SP Singh, co-chairman of the committee, said four eminent scientists of the country — Dr Bhim Singh, IIT-Delhi; Dr Shantanu Bhattacharya, IISE-Bangalore; Dr V Nagaraja, IISc-Bangalore; and Dr SK Satish, IISc-Bangalore — will be awarded the prestigious Goyal prize by the university.

Prof Singh added that each scientist will be awarded a medal, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. Apart from this, four scientists, who are aged below 45, will be awarded the Rajib Goyal Prize for Young Scientists. These scientists are — Dr Saptarshi Basu, Bangalore; Dr Sebastian C Peter, JNCASR- Bangalore; Dr Bushra Atiq, IIT-Kanpur; and Dr Sanjib Kumar Agarwalla, Bhubaneswar.
