According to a police spokesperson, the seized consignment—valued at over Rs 32 lakh in the illegal market—was being transported in a truck bearing registration number of Maharashtra and was headed toward Ambala. The narcotics were cleverly concealed among cartons of readymade garments to evade detection.

“The origin of the consignment is under investigation. Multiple police teams are conducting raids at various locations based on leads obtained during the preliminary interrogation of the accused,” he added.

Acting on specific intelligence, the police set up a checkpoint along the 148B highway service road near Dhani Bhatotha village under the jurisdiction of the Nangal Chaudhary police station. During the search, the team intercepted a truck and recovered 39 plastic sacks containing banned substances, hidden within garment boxes, said the spokesman.

He maintained that the seizure included 508.55 kg of doda post (poppy husk pods) and 301.93 kg of chura post (poppy husk powder). The truck driver, identified as Somdutt, a resident of Nangal Kalia village, was taken into custody at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation suggests that Somdatt was transporting the narcotics from Nangal Chaudhary to Ambala. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Nangal Chaudhary police station, and further interrogation is underway to trace other individuals connected to the smuggling network,” the spokesman added.

He said the operation was part of an ongoing district-level campaign against drug trafficking that aimed at curbing the illegal narcotics trade and protect the youth from substance abuse.
