88 posts lying vacant at Jagadhri Civil Hospital

Sanctioned strength of employees is 164; no staff member in some departments

With as many as 88 posts lying vacant at the Sub-Divisional Hospital, Jagadhri, the intstitute has been facing an acute shortage of staff, including doctors, for a long time.

With only 46 per cent strength, the hospital has only 76 staff members against the sanctioned strength of 164.

As per an RTI information, sought by advocate Kamal Anand of Sangrur, Punjab, last month, there are two posts of Deputy Medical Superintendent, but one is vacant. Out of the sanctioned 42 posts of Medical Officer, only 11 posts are filled and 31 are lying vacant. There are 38 posts of nursing officers. Out of these, 33 posts are filled and five posts are lying vacant.

Four posts of pharmacy officer are lying vacant against the total eight sanctioned posts.

In some departments, there is not even a single staff member.

There is no Plaster Technician (one sanctioned post), Senior Pharmacy Officer (one sanctioned post), Physiotherapist (two sanctioned posts) or Chief Nursing Officer (one sanctioned post) at the hospital.

As per the RTI information, all posts of Senior Dental Surgeon (one sanctioned post), Senior Medical Officers (three sanctioned posts), Dental Surgeon (two sanctioned posts), Assistant (one sanctioned post) and Medical Lab Technologist (10 sanctioned posts) are filled and no post is lying vacant.

A social worker said that patients are referred to other hospitals in many cases as this hospital has a staff crunch, with many posts vacant.

The average daily OPD footfall of this hospital is 800.

Dr Anuj Mangla, Medical Superintendent of Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital, Jagadhri, said that they were short of staff, but they were managing with the available employees so that no patient had to face any inconvenience in getting treatment.

“In the labour room, we have only two doctors, but we are taking the services of two more doctors on deputation, so that the delivery work is not affected in the hospital. Similarly, we are managing work in other departments too,” said Dr Anuj Mangla, Medical Superintendent of Sub-Divisional Hospital, Jagadhri.
