8th international symposium

Faridabad: The 8th International Symposium on Fusion of Science and Technology (ISFT-2020) being organised by the JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, in association with the Society for Fusion of Science was inaugurated today. As many as 400 delegates from India and abroad are participating in the conference, out of which, about 50 delegates are from countries like the USA, South Korea, South Africa, France, Thailand, Italy, Iran, Japan and Germany. Former chairman of the University Grants Commission Dr Ved Prakash was the chief guest and keynote speaker on the inaugural session. Director, NIT, Srinagar, Dr Rakesh Sehgal and MD and CEO of Daikin India Kanwal Jeet Jawa were present as guest of honours. Prof Naveen Kumar from Delhi Technical University and CA Santosh Kumar, trustee from SRCEM, Palwal, were also present. Dr Ved Prakash termed science and technology as an important tool in providing solutions to many problems in society. He discussed the role and concept of research-oriented universities in providing solutions to problems engulfing modern societies. Emphasising the need to popularise science at school-level, he said many students left the subject of science in the middle and did not pursue it further, as they found it difficult. Director, NIT, Srinagar, Dr Rakesh Sehgal, appreciated the efforts of the university in organising the conference with such an important subject in mind. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Kumar said the university was named after the great Indian Scientist Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose, who is acknowledged as the greatest interdisciplinary scientist in India.

Girl wrestlers win nine medals

Sonepat: Young girl wrestlers of Geetanjali Wrestling Academy at Geetanjali Senior Secondary School, Guru Sadan, Badwasni, Sonepat, created history by winning nine medals, including two golds and two silvers, in three different age groups in National School Games. The event held in different categories had concluded recently at Kohlapur in Maharashtra and in Delhi. Kusum in U-19 and Inshika in U-17 won the gold; Tannu Malik U-19 and Kajal U-14 won silver medals and Sangeeta and Anju U-19, Deepika U-17 and Kirti and Anchal U-14 had won bronze medals. They were given a warm welcome on their arrival in the school by chairman of the School Narender Sura and other school and academy staff.

2 bag bronze in baseball MEET

Sonepat: Neha and Priyanka, students of local Hindu Girl’s College, had bagged a bronze medal in the five-day All India Inter University Women Baseball Championship. The championship had concluded at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, in Maharashtra recently. The students, who represented MDU, Rohtak, defeated the team of host university by 12-0. College principal Dr RK Gupta, staff members and students gave a warm welcome to the winners on their arrival on the college premises. Congratulating them, the principal assured every possible help to students who were bringing laurels in various sports activities.

Ensure smooth admission process: VC

Rohtak: Vice-Chancellor of Pandit Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (PLC SUPVA) Prof Rajbir Singh today carried out discussion with faculty members on the admission process for the new semester. The objective was to ensure smooth and timely execution of the admission process. Addressing officials, Prof Rajbir said three principles of access, equity and excellence should be adhered to with respect to curriculum, infrastructure, academics and administration, etc. He said: “Our efforts should be directed towards making the programmes offered by the university accessible to aspiring students. For this, extensive outreach activities have to be undertaken.” He also exhorted heads of the departments to plan faculty visits to various schools in the region to make the students aware about creative and exciting courses offered by university. He stressed the need for an equitable and inclusive education and said students from remote and underprivileged backgrounds should be provided with opportunities to enroll in various courses available.

3 students clear UGC-NET exam

Sirsa: Three students of Government National College, Sirsa, made the college proud by clearing the UGC-NET exam in political science and psychology. Principal of the college Professor Ramkumar greeted the students-Nirmal Singh, Sanjay Kumar and Basant Kumar-and patted them on their backs, saying that they have illuminated the name of the college. Head of the political science department Dr Varsha Chaudhary and Head of the psychology department Dr Ravinder Puri in a joint statement said whenever the students come out with flying colours in any field, it becomes a matter of pride for the college.
