Faridabad: The 8th International Symposium on Fusion of Science and Technology (ISFT-2020) will be inaugurated on Tuesday. It is being organised by the JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, in association with the Society for Fusion of Science. As many as 400 delegates from India and abroad are participating in the international conference. Out of which, about 50 delegates are from countries like the USA, South Korea, South Africa, France, Thailand, Italy, Iran, Japan and Germany. Prof Dinesh Kumar today reviewed the preparation of the conference. There will be 11 technical sessions, wherein more than 200 papers will be presented which have been authored by nearly 400 researchers of over 15 countries. Former chairman of the University Grants Commission Dr Ved Prakash will be the chief guest in the inaugural session, while Dr Rakesh Sehgal, director, NIT, Srinagar, and Kanwal Jeet Jawa, MD and CEO, Daikin India, will be the guest of honour. Prof Naveen Kumar from Delhi Technical University and CA Santosh Kumar, trustee from SRCEM, Palwal, will also address the session. Over 17 speakers from different countries have been invited who will address four plenary sessions.

Faculty development programme

Hisar: A one-week Faculty Development Programme on ‘Recent Trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Information Communication Technology (ICT)’ is being organised in the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. The programme will be sponsored by World Bank Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme-3 (TEQIP-3) and the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the university, inaugurated the programme and said everybody using AI in their daily lives. Degree is only a piece of paper and is immaterial, if students are not employable and knowledgeable. They should have the wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong.

students clear NET, JRF

Karnal: Students of MCom of Dyal Singh College, Karnal, came out with flying colours in NET-JRF exam results. Vishal passed the NET exam for the second time in a row and this time, he also succeeded in clearing JRF, thereby bringing laurels to the college. Anuj and Yashika too cleared the NET exam. Prof BR Gulati, General Manager, Dyal Singh College Trust Society; Dr Chandra Shekhar, principal, and Dr Mukta Jain, head of the commerce department, greeted the students.

Periodontics dept adjudged best

Yamunanagar: Guident, an online dental publication, had adjudged the department of periodontics of JN Kapoor DAV Dental College, Yamunanagar, as the best department in the country at Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi, recently. Principal Dr IK Pandit said it was in recognition of the great work done in the fields of scientific research, student teaching, implant placement and related patient care, oral hygiene preventive protocol implementation for periodontal and gingival disease control at a mass-level. “Our department of Periodontics under the patronage of Dr Nymphea Pandit has been chosen as the best department in the country,” said Dr Pandit.

70 take part in programme

Sonepat: Prof Rajendrakumar Anayath, Vice-Chancellor of the DCR University of Science and Technology, Murthal (Sonepat), in an inaugural ceremony of faculty development programme said: “According to our Upanishads, the word Guru is formed from the sum total of two words ‘Gu’ and ‘Ru’. ‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘Ru’ means light. So, Guru means someone who leads us from darkness to light.” In fact, Oxford dictionary has included the word Guru. In all, 70 participants from various educational institutions of four states-Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan-participated in the programme.
