Dayanand Singh, a 90-year-old man, was axed to death allegedly by his grandson at Chelawas village here last evening. The exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained; however, a family dispute is believed to be the cause.

The police have started investigation by registering a case of murder against accused Narender. Family members of Narender have also been booked in connection with the crime.

In his police complaint, Vinod, the uncle of the accused, said his father resided with him at his house in the village. On Friday evening, Narendra armed with axes came to his house and attacked his grandfather when he was resting at a charpai after dinner. “On hearing the sound, I came out of my room. Then Narendra also threatened me of dire consequence before fleeing the spot. Later, I took my father to a government hospital in Kanina where doctors declared him dead,” said the complainant.
