MBBS exam: 978-page chargesheet filed by Rohtak police; 17 mobile numbers under scrutiny
The Rohtak police have filed a comprehensive 978-page chargesheet in connection with the MBBS exam scam at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR). Three university employees — Roshan Lal, Rohit and Deepak — have been named in the chargesheet. All three were dismissed from service following the scandal and are currently in judicial custody.
“The chargesheet comprises 978 pages, while the probe is still underway,” said DSP Dalip Singh, who is heading the investigation.
According to sources, 187 pages of the chargesheet detail the examination records of 24 MBBS students from a private medical college who were booked in February for their alleged involvement in the scam. These documents were furnished by UHSR authorities.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the police have identified 17 suspicious mobile numbers reportedly used during the execution of the scam. Authorities are currently retrieving Call Detail Records (CDRs), Customer Application Form (CAF) IDs, and location data covering the period from January 2023 to June 2024.
One of the accused, during police remand, pointed investigators to a toilet beneath the secrecy branch of the university, which was allegedly used as a secret location for exchanging tampered answer sheets.
The chargesheet also documents the seizure of Rs 6 lakh from one accused’s residence, two mobile phones suspected to have been used by an invigilator to leak exam papers, and a machine employed to stitch answer sheets after tampering.
First exposed by The Tribune in January, the scam involved the illicit removal of answer sheets during annual and supplementary MBBS exams. These were re-attempted by students and stealthily re-submitted to the secrecy branch to fraudulently obtain passing marks.
In total, 41 individuals — including 24 MBBS students and 17 university employees —were booked in February in connection with the scandal.
