The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Faridabad suffered a significant setback when its candidate, Pravesh Mehta, joined BJP on September 28. Mehta, 75, announced his decision to support BJP candidate Vipul Goel in the upcoming elections, leaving the AAP’s candidature in the segment vacant.

Mehta had joined AAP three years ago after leaving BJP and had also been associated with the Congress and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). As a former Municipal Corporator, Mehta started his political career with BJP.

Vipul Goel, the BJP candidate from Faridabad, described Mehta’s joining as a vital development, ensuring his outright victory and highlighting AAP’s lack of base or support in the segment. Mehta’s move, along with hundreds of supporters, will convince local residents that BJP is capable of meeting and fulfilling their aspirations.

Mehta participated in a public meeting and canvassed in Old Faridabad in support of Goel. The BJP candidate assured Mehta of full regards and respect within the party.

AAP has fielded candidates in all six segments of the district: Ravi Dagar from NIT, Ravinder Faujdar from Ballabgarh, Abhash Chandila from Tigaon, OP Verma from Badkhal, and Kaushal Tatarpur from Prithla.

Pramod Manocha, AAP spokesperson, viewed Mehta’s exit as beneficial, stating that it prevents individuals from using the party as a platform for personal political gain.
