In a major breakthrough, a joint team of the Jhajjar CIA branch and City Police Station managed to arrest the main accused in the 2019 murder of Vishal Mega Mart’s owner in Jhajjar.

“The accused, identified as Anil, from Aachej Paharipur village, had been at large for over five years and was carrying a reward of Rs 5,000. He is involved in more than six criminal cases across various police stations in four districts of the state,” said inspector Vivek Malik, in charge, CIA, Jhajjar.

Malik said Ashok was standing near the main gate of the mart when three young men arrived there on May 17, 2019. They opened several rounds of fire on Ashok from a close range and fled from the spot. Ashok’s nephew Sumit rushed him to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.

Following Sumit's complaint, a criminal case was registered against Anil and two others at the City police station, Jhajjar. Two others were arrested earlier, but Anil was on the run, he added.

“Anil managed to evade arrest for a long time. In January last year, a cash reward of Rs 5,000 was announced for information leading to his arrest by the IGP, Rohtak Range. Following the directions of Jhajjar Police Commissioner B Satheesh Balan, a concerted hunt was launched to apprehend Anil. The task was performed successfully this time,” Malik added.

He maintained that the accused had over six criminal cases against him, including cases at the Beri police station for disturbances caused by drinking, stealing idols from the Dada Sirsa temple, injuring someone during a theft and issuing threats.

“Additionally, Anil is accused in criminal cases registered in Bhiwani and Rohtak districts. He was also involved in a 2010 murder case in Charkhi Dadri. The accused was produced before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody,” Malik said.
