The protest erupted after the farmers, who had allegedly caught individuals stealing power cables from agricultural fields, demanded action. They claimed instead of addressing their concerns, the SHO behaved inappropriately.
"The incidents of power cable theft from fields are rising. We caught the thieves and even scrap dealers, but the police took no action," said Prince Waraich, spokesperson of BKU (Pehowa). “During the meeting, SHO Jagdish Kumar’s behaviour was unacceptable. A permanent morcha has been set up and we will continue our protest until strict action is taken.”
Despite intervention from DSP Pehowa Nirmal Singh, the protesting farmers refused to disperse, insisting on action against the SHO.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Kurukshetra Police said efforts were ongoing to resolve the issue amicably.
