Yamunanagar, February 21
Under the banner ‘Haryana Banao Abhiyan’, advocates today held a seminar in the District Bar Association room in Jagadhri, demanding a separate high court and state capital for Haryana.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Randhir Singh Badhran, convener of the abhiyan, and former Chairman of Bar Council of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh.
Badhran said more than 14.25 lakh cases were pending before the district and subordinate courts of Haryana. He said besides those cases, about 6.19 lakh cases were pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. “Lakhs of cases are pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, district courts, subordinate courts, commissions, tribunals and other authorities of the residents of the state. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a separate high court for Haryana to ensure that the problem of pendency of cases is resolved,” said Badhran.
He further said the construction of a new capital would help in the development of underdeveloped areas of the state.
He added that the Bar Association, Jagadhri, fully supported the demand the campaign.
He said their demands were also being supported by various senior officers. The advocates present during the seminar included Mahinder Singh Chopra, Arun Dhanda (Chairman of District Bar Association, Jagadhri), Abhishek Bangar, Ravinder Sandhu, Shanu Sharma, Ram Kumar Radauri, Pawan Punia and Dinesh Singh Chauhan.
