After 37 years of service, Rohtak university bids farewell to Prof Kumar

Prof Harish Kumar, Dean (Academic Affairs) and Head, department of journalism and mass communication, at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), superannuated on Thursday, after serving 37 years at the university.

To make his retirement memorable, university authorities organised a ceremony to bid farewell to him.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar shared several of his experiences, stating that he witnessed the university ascending to new heights of progress during his tenure.

As the Academic Affairs Dean, Kumar played a significant role in implementing various plans, student and teacher welfare policies, and non-teaching staff welfare policies, university authorities said.

During his tenure, the process under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for teachers was initiated, and MoUs were signed with several major industrial houses.

An alumnus of Punjab University, Chandigarh; Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi; and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, he began his career as a journalist before joining academia.

Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh said, under Kumar’s tenure as the Head of the journalism department, the department established a Radio TV studio and secured a licence to start a community radio station from the Government of India.

The VC described him as a strong pillar in the university’s growth and wished him a healthy, active, and balanced post-retirement life.

On this occasion, Registrar Krishan Kant said Kumar’s tenure would be remembered for his diverse creative initiatives.

Dean (Colleges Development Council) Vinita Hooda said Kumar promoted a culture of mutual trust and dialogue throughout his tenure.

Randeep Rana (Dean, Faculty of Arts), Rajpal (Dean, Faculty of Management), Rahul Rishi (Controller of Examinations), Sapna Garg (Dean, Student Welfare), and Ashish Dahiya (Public Relations Director) also addressed the gathering at the event.
