After Abhay, JJP’s Digvijay Chautala gets threat from Cyprus number

A threatening video accompanied by a message was sent to JJP Youth state president Digvijay Chautala via WhatsApp from a Cyprus-based number, prompting a police investigation.

The video, received on Wednesday from an international number beginning with +357, appeared to show gunfire at a statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, which Chautala had installed in Sawantkhera village of Dabwali last year.

Chautala filed a complaint immediately. Initially taken up by Panchkula police, the case has now been registered in Dabwali City Police Station, which is leading the probe. Cyber and forensic teams have inspected the statue site near a petrol pump, though employees there said they had not heard any gunfire, casting doubt on the video's timing or authenticity.

“We have registered an FIR and are investigating the matter from all possible angles,” said Dabwali SHO Anil Kumar.

Talking to ‘The Tribune’, Digvijay Chautala said, “I received a threatening video and message from an international number. It’s the responsibility of the Haryana Police to ensure my safety and that of every citizen.” He expressed frustration over not having received a copy of the FIR and hinted that the police may have retrieved some evidence from nearby CCTV footage.

Criticising the prevailing security situation, Chautala said, “People no longer feel safe. Anyone can threaten or intimidate someone without fear. The law and order in the state is in a very poor condition.”

This is the second such threat to a Chautala family member in recent months. Earlier, Abhay Singh Chautala, INLD national president, also received a death threat via a voice message sent to his son, Karan Chautala. That incident too is under police investigation.
