Even as a probe is on into the alleged irregularities in allotment of residential plots under Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy of the government, the allotment of two plots in return for the land acquired for carving out the Industrial Model Township (IMT ) here in 2006 has been cancelled. An inquiry into a total of 14 cases is currently underway.

  • An inquiry is underway in a total of 14 cases wherein plots were allotted in return for land acquired for Industrial Model Township in 2006. As per the land acquisition Act, a plot is allotted to owner whose 75% of land is acquired
  • One of the letters issued by HSIIDC to an allottee on March 19, 2024, says only 65.71% of the land belonging to you was acquired, and hence you are not eligible for allotment of plot...

The alleged irregularities came to light after a complaint was lodged by a resident of Chandawali village in the district earlier this year. He alleged that many plots had been allotted in violation of the policy. As per the policy, a residential plot is allotted if 75 per cent of land owned by the person is acquired under Section 4 of the land acquisition Act.

However, some residents of the villages whose land was acquired for the township resorted to making claims by changing the ownership claims after the culmination of the process of the Section 4. The market value of some of the plots allotted wrongly had been between Rs 1 crore and Rs 3 crore, according to sources.

“While a probe conducted by the office of the district revenue officer on the directions of the DC office, all the 14 allotments highlighted in the complaint have been found to be made illegally,” claimed Giriraj, a complainant. He said as many as 24 allotments had been suspected to be illegal, HSIIDC has issued cancellation letters to two of the allottees already.

“...it has been observed that only 65.71 per cent of the land belonging to you was acquired by the government, and hence you are not eligible for allotment of RR plot under the provisions of the policy,’’ says one of the letters issued by HSIIDC to an allottee on March 19, 2024. Though three weeks were given for the reply, no concrete evidence has been provided so far.

Around 1,832 acres belonging to residents of Chandawali, Machhgar, Sotai, Nawada and Mujeri villages had been acquired for the IMT in 2006.

Additional DC Anand Sharma said the inquiry into some of the complaints was on. The probe had been marked to him by the DC office
