After JJP plaint, meet to declare result of trust vote against ZP chief cancelled

Deputy Commissioner Kaithal, Dr Vivek Bharti, has indefinitely cancelled the meeting scheduled to declare the results of the no-confidence motion against the Zila Parishad Chairman.

As per sources, the meeting was cancelled following a complaint by the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) to the Chief Election Commissioner of India. The meeting, originally set for September 16, has been postponed till further order. The counting of votes on the no-confidence motion was conducted earlier, but the results were not declared due to the stay.

Bharti clarified that the decision was made in compliance with a recent Punjab and Haryana High Court order. “The High Court vacated the stay on the petition filed by ZP president Deepak Malik regarding the no-confidence motion. In line with the court’s September 12 order, the counting of votes was scheduled for September 16. It has now been postponed for an indefinite period. We will seek the Election Commission’s approval before rescheduling,” he said.

JJP state office secretary Randhir Singh filed the complaint on Saturday, arguing that the DC’s decision to proceed with the meeting violated the model code of conduct (MCC).

“This issue pertains to a government department and any action during this time may adversely affect our party’s prospects. Any such actions are a direct violation of the code,” Singh stated in his complaint.

He argued that the meeting was being hastily called during the election period, adding, “We have requested that the meeting be stayed until the conclusion of the elections.”

Deepak Malik, who was elected member of the Zila Parishad and subsequently became its president, faced a no-confidence motion on July 19. Malik contested the motion in court, which initially granted a stay.
